Creating a Quick-Service Food Establishment
It seems like more and more these days us Marylanders are dining out more and more at quick-service food restaurants, or fast food joints as you may know them. Whether your favorite is McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, or anything else, we all have our favorite.
Quick-service restaurants are different from traditional restaurants in a lot of ways, chiefly in the kinds of food they serve and the speed at which they serve it at. But another key distinction can be found in the layout of the restaurants. Today we wanted to take some time to talk about the different Maryland restaurant remodeling aspects and how they relate to your quick-service restaurant.
Keep Your Primary Spaces in Mind
Your restaurant has several different primary spaces that will be integral to the success of your business that we want to discuss. They are your dining area, your kitchen, and your restrooms.
Your dining area is extremely important for a number of reasons. Firstly, it’s where your customers will be spending most of their time, both ordering and eating, so you want to make a good impression. The dining area should be big enough to accommodate all of your customers and should be arranged in an efficient manner.
What do we mean by this? Well, typically restaurants will put their drink station and trash cans close to the order counter so the customers can go there straight from ordering. The most important way to design your dining room is to think of the path of the customer and try to make that path as easy as possible.
The kitchen is the heart and soul of any restaurant. Ambiance, décor, and atmosphere are all great things to have, but they’re all meaningless if you don’t have good food. You need to not only fill your kitchen with the best appliances and employees, but you need to design it with the most efficient layout.
For instance, when remodeling their Maryland restaurant, many quick-service food owners opt to place their drink fountain right next to the drive-thru window for easy access. You’ll also want to think about where people will be working and want to make sure they have enough room to work and won’t be banging elbows.
Lastly, we wanted to talk about restrooms. Every good restaurant owner knows that they need to keep their restrooms clean and well-stocked, but did you know that their placement within your restaurant is important as well? Typically you don’t want to place your restrooms prominently in your dining area, as they could act as a detractor to the dining experience. When performing renovations on their Maryland restaurants, many owners opt to place their restrooms off to the side. You want them to be accessible by everyone, but not so accessible that you can smell them or see inside while eating.
