Location is everything for retail stores, but the outside has to match the inside. At Northstar, we’ve helped many business owners build out new stores and remodel old ones to take advantage of every inch of available space and grow their profits. Below are just a few examples.
A new owner of this old and dated convenience store/gas station wanted to provide his customers with more options than just the chip rack and soda cold case. By carefully examining the parameters of the building and extensive design, we were able to remove masonry walls and a bathroom to provide an open, inviting sales area that allowed the owner to cater to the needs of his customers. This included installation of a full counter faced in safety glass with a display case below, which provided even more display areas of marketable high-dollar merchandise visible to the clients yet safe from harm. We also had the foresight to design the facility to accommodate a future reach-in/walk-in beverage cooler to expand beverage sales. This renovation was also performed with the facility fully functional 24/7.
We worked closely with the owners and their architect to develop a plan within the project’s budget for the creation of this conventional college bookstore that doubled as an internet order fulfillment company. After we built their location at West Virginia University, the owner approached us directly to perform design/build renovations on their locations at Towson University and University of Maryland.
7 Summers Liquors
Prior to purchasing this existing Northern Prince George’s County liquor store, the owners hired an architect and invested a significant sum of money to prepare a set of plans for the redevelopment of the property. Unfortunately, the cost of construction as detailed in the architect’s drawings, and as verified by the owner’s solicitation of multiple proposals from various contractors, far exceeded the budget cost that would make the deal feasible.
The owner approached Northstar and requested that Northstar prepare an estimate in hopes that Northstar would be able to contradict the previous contractors and provide a significantly lower project cost. Northstar countered with an offer to propose a project that would meet the owners budget and satisfy the redevelopment of the facility. By utilizing their knowledge of the building codes, building materials, and cost, Northstar was able to create a plan to remodel the aging and dated liquor store into a new, modern, vibrant retail store within the owners prescribed budget.
The owner proceeded to purchase the aged liquor store, and Northstar performed the remodel within the prescribed budget. Removal of interior bearing walls and installation of steel support beams allowed the integration of a rear room in to the main sales area provided large open spaces for amenities such as a 14 door walk in cooler, a separate 8 door walk in, multiple retail shelving units, and gondola displays for beverages.
